gh issue comment

Comment on an issue

What it does

gh issue comment adds a message to an issue's conversation. The text goes in --body; without it an editor opens.

GitHub turns numbers like #42 into links to issues and pull requests, and @anna notifies the user. --edit-last edits your last comment.

Syntax

gh issue comment <number> --body "<text>"
gh issue comment <number> --edit-last

Examples

• Write on issue 12 that the bug is fixed in pull request 42

  gh issue comment 12 --body "Fixed in #42"

  same as: gh issue comment 12 -b "Fixed in #42", gh issue comment 12 --body 'Fixed in #42', gh issue comment 12 -b 'Fixed in #42'

  • issue comment 12 — a comment on the issue
  • --body "Fixed in #42" — the text; #42 becomes a link to the PR
