gh issue create

Open a new issue

What it does

gh issue create opens an issue: a task, a bug or an idea. With no flags it asks for the title and the description, which you can write in an editor. Give only --title, and it still asks for the description.

--label adds a label, --assignee @me assigns the issue to you, and --web opens the form in the browser, useful when the repository has issue templates.

Syntax

gh issue create
gh issue create --title "<title>" --label <label>
gh issue create --title "<title>" --body "<description>"

Examples

• Open the issue "Login fails in Safari" with the label bug

  gh issue create --title "Login fails in Safari" --label bug

  same as: gh issue create -t "Login fails in Safari" -l bug, gh issue create --title 'Login fails in Safari' --label bug, gh issue create -t 'Login fails in Safari' -l bug

  • issue create — a new issue; asks for the description separately
  • --title "Login fails in Safari" — the title
  • --label bug — the label
